Personally Yours Wedding Gift

Giving gifts is one of my love languages. I would love nothing more than to constantly shower those around me with surprise gifts. If I had buckets of money like Scrooge McDuck, but my same giving sense, I would be a force to be reckoned with.

Here's a gift pal. Why you might ask? Let's go with...Because it is Friday. Or because you are a sweet friend. Or I saw this and it made me think of you. You mentioned you liked this while we were out last week so I went back and picked it up... Gifts all around! But alas I am not rich. Therefore, sadly my gifts are few and far between. So when a special time of celebration roles around I make every effort not to procrastinate and compile that perfectly personal token within my budget.

Recently we had just the occasion to put our thinking caps on and come up with something extra special for two wonderful friends. I mentioned on Monday that we had spent the weekend helping Jenn and Greg celebrate their upcoming nuptials with their friends and family. They have quickly taken up a special place in our lives and we wanted nothing more than to show them just how grateful we are for their friendship especially during this exciting time in their lives. Because I was in the drivers seat, the gift wound up being directed more specifically to Jenn and our mutual love fore wine but hopefully it will be something they enjoy as a couple down the road.

The best part of all...wait for it... is that the concept is one that could easily be manipulated for various occasions on any budget! Music to a gift givers ears. You can customize it to your personal taste, style, and relationship. Take a look.

Ta-Da! A basket of wine with glasses.

Okay, so saying it like that doesn't sound so original. Or exciting for that matter. But this is no ordinary wine basket. Let's take a closer look.

First of all, Jenn and I are wine people. We share a mutual love for all wines and are always serving up a glass of our latest purchases with one another. So it was my obvious choice. But this gift could be done with any beverage of choice relevant to the receiver.

The basket - or would you call this a bin since it has handles? - is the first part of the gift.

It is functional for packaging and can be repurposed somewhere in her house afterward. The pattern is just to her taste! And with the front labelling pocket, it is the first opportunity to add your personal flair. *I was running late with the assembly so mine fell a little flat.

We went with four bottles because that is what fell within our budget for the shower. {We may continue on theme for the wedding but time will tell.} I opted to go with two red and two white. One of each being slightly more costly than our usual choices to make it that much more special.

The glasses were an essential part of the gift because Jenn doesn't have a full set to my knowledge. If your recipient already has a full supply you could add a different style, a wine accessory, or more wine!

Then we added some personal touches to take the gift to the next level.

Each wine has a purpose. To be shared as a couple during a monumental moment, likely during the first year, of their marriage. You could go with anything, serious or funny, that suits your relationship with the recipient.

We went with:

  1. First Vacation
  2. First Epic Fight
  3. First Dinner Party {Her turn!!}
  4. Establishing Your First Family Tradition

The tags were homemade. I went with basic colours a style but they could be as elevated as your taste and skill allows.

The knots were another personal touch - this time by Common-Law. Being the fisherman that he is, he knows a variety of knots and this one got two thumbs up from me. Not only is it too cute but it is also really sturdy {if knots are sturdy?} and will stand the test of time until each bottle is opened.

The finishing touch was a handmade fabric flower attached with twine to hold the handles together. Nothing too over the top - that's not their style - but enough to whisper we love you this much. At least that is how I see details.

There you have it. Our gift that says Personally Yours with Love.

I am delighted with the way it turned out. Not exactly how I imagined - the presentation was a bit of a struggle - but sweet none the less. But of course my favourite part is the versatility. Anyone can take the fundamental concept, add their own style and twist that makes it perfectly theirs for the giving. Maybe that person is you!

*If this approach doesn't have enough for the man for your liking we hear you. My Mom is like that. When she is on time with a gift, which is rare, she likes to take both genders into account. Rob suggests adding a few tall-boys or a bottle for the man with labels tailored to him.

Perhaps one or two of the following:

  1. First Guys Night
  2. First Solo Drink {Baby on Board}
  3. Reward - First Diaper Change
  4. First Round of Golf
  5. First Summer Project
Happy Gifting!

It Doesn't Have to be New

It is another beautiful Saturday out there guys! The sun is peaking through those clouds, everyone and their dog is out for a walk, and the smell of fresh cut grass fills the air. All of that combined with the first yard sales of the year brings a pure joy to this gals heart!

I only found one treasure on my first trip out but it was well worth the early rise. A vintage toy to add to Finley's room and can be used for learning his alphabet down the room. I paid one whole dollar! Score.

Vintage Children's Toy
But that is not all for treasures around here this week. My mother, Doris or D-Frase, just arrived home from her winter in Florida. I'm not jealous at all! And she brought along some treasures to share. My lot includes several gorgeous pottery pieces, a glass dish with cork stopper, and an unfinished ceramic jar with handles that is just waiting to find its purpose. These beauties range in price from $0.25 up to the $8 splurge on the pottery pitcher. I cant wait to put each of these to work.

Dishes, Dishes, Everywhere
She also found some fabric options for future DIY's. All of with cost less than $10 total.

What to do, what to do...
And last, but certainly not least, are the two furniture finds that followed me home from a local second-hand store, Forbes New to You {check them out on Facebook}.

I'm excited to see what these new additions have in store and what spot they will come to occupy around here!

Mirror Mirror

...on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?

Why our entry space of course!

Alright. That is a quite a stretch if I am being honest. Our entry has come a long way as far as function since we started. Ill give it that. But visually, it is still lacking major appeal. It needs...something. I just cant seem to find the items that will add the flair I am going for. But in the mean time I will settle for serviceable.

Recall, one more time, where we started and how far we have come...

*If you want to catch up on the steps along the way do check out any {or all} of these posts: Hodgepodge Friday, Pinch of Productivity, Buckets of Fun, Sunday Reminisce, What Not To Do, To Do, Labelling Toward a Better Tomorrow, A-Z Entry Closet.

And now for our latest addition. Small but mighty - in the welcoming department.

I finally got around to bossing Robert into hanging that mirror I found a while back {and mentioned here}. And it actually winded up fitting like a glove. {There's Ace Ventura again...}

Welcome, Welcome
I read Storage & Display put out by Pottery Barn a while back and its section on entry spaces has really stuck with me. It pointed out the fact that your entry says oodles about your home and sets the stage for what is ahead {Clearly not a verbatim quote. Pottery Barn would never say oodles}. It went on to say a plethora of valuable things and I would highly recommend picking up a copy. But what I took away by memory where the key components that create a welcoming entryway that offers 'traditional comforts of hospitality':
  • A place for guests to sit and remove footwear {check - trunk with comfy/headache cushion and practical storage}
  • A surface to drop anything a guest or you may be carrying {Working on it...But at least the keys and odds and ends have their spot in the closet buckets}
  • A mirror to sneak a peak {!!! Enter giggle of delight here.}
  • An umbrella stand/hook {I am on the hunt - for a stand along with a classic umbrella or two}
  • Somewhere to hang your coat {Check!}
There is a lot more to be considered in an entryway than immediately meets the eye. If you ask Pottery Barn - but I would tend to agree. Just by adding a simple mirror my entryway went from a drab place where you kick off your shoes to a room that at least whispers 'welcome.'

Hopefully with a few more treasure finds along the way that whisper will become a straight up, 'Come on in and stay a while!'

Sunday Reminisce

And...exhale...

Sundays just seem to have that affect on me - mind and body just enter an automatic 'relax mode' of sorts. Funny as it is because my life doesn't really operate on the standard weekly calendar schedule. It is not as if Sunday offers anything different than my Monday through Saturday. But alas, here I am with my lukewarm mug of coffee {Does anyone make it through a coffee without having to reheat a handful of times?} gazing out a fingerprint smudged window, which is offering up the view of grey skies and lightly falling mist, just feeling...happy.

My week had started on the right foot with projects and productivity amuck. What better way, really? Well, I shall tell you. The only thing that warms this gals heart more than projects and pretties, is quality family time! My middle brother, Joshua, and his wife took a well needed work-vacation and I had the opportunity to keep their four rambunctious kiddos {a total of five when adding my peanut to the mix} for a few nights. Giggles, creative tales, many a hug and kiss is the equivalent to pure joy for this Tantie.

Silly Lambs - As I washed a few dishes, Eloise decided to 'share'
her bread snack with Finley all over the {just} swept floors!
The big kids went to school on Friday {with a little bug in their ear telling them if they were nice a trip to the movies may be in order} while Finn got both love and bruises from his sweet cousin Eloise at home. And Momma here enjoyed a quick, though busy, venture to a nearby Winners - my most favoritest place to shop in these here parts.

Care to take a gander at the few items that followed us home? {Keep in mind those two sillies above tagged along. It was a quicky!}

Basic White Mirror - Aww the possibilities!
Im thinking this mirror will be just right for helping pull our entry space together! What do you think? In my mind it was a steal {not steak} for $30.

Storehouse Decorative Pillow
Who knows where we will find this guy over the next few months {even years}! I love the pop of colour it will bring to any space. And the detailing brings in a hint of 'nan' mixing new and old {just the way I like it}!

'Holy' Cow!
 A hole at the seam, which can easily be fixed, saved me a five sheet for my White Chocolate Mocha from Starbucks! Got to love a deal!

Surprise!! A gift for Pap!!! {Do you likey??}
And the random purchase of the day. Finley insisted on picking up this basting set for Pap as a little surprise {and motivation} for all the barbecuing he has ahead this summer.

*We have been discussing grand plans for the backyard this summer - likely everyone has a version of that conversation this time of year. {We being Robert and I in this circumstance, not Finley. Though he does get an earful of plans more often than not!} Do you think the basting set is enough motivation to get the projects in motion? Ill keep you posted!

Im beyond excited with our jackpot finds and cant wait to get them settled here at their new home! {Though I doubt I'm AS excited as those big kids when they not only got to go to a movie - The Croods - but were treated with 'ice cream' {frozen yogurt} and ring pops!}

Ahhh...Sundays! I hope you are able to relax and enjoy yours as well.
